The festival also includes the crowning of the Sunrice festival queen and king who are the town's representatives during the year.This event is anchored in the culture of the small Riverina town, with many locals volunteering their time to make this happen each year.
6. Hay Rugby League Knockout
The Hay Rugby League Knockout or better known as the Hay Rugby Carnival, has been held every Easter weekend since 1948. The carnival brings together 16 teams from towns and surrounding districts around the region to compete against each other. There are not just Rugby games. The event includes sideshows, amusement rides, pig racing, food and market stalls and much more. Even though the carnival is a rugby competition, you don't have to like Rugby to enjoy the festival; plenty of people come for the carnival atmosphere.
7. Hillston Sunflower Festival
The Hillston Sunflower Festival starts in mid-April and runs for five days. The event celebrates the sunflower harvest and attracts thousands of visitors who come to observe the sunflower fields. The festival includes street markets, parades, food, and live entertainment. There are sunflower competitions, where prizes are given to the growers that have the largest or most beautiful sunflower. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover and appreciate this beautiful flower while enjoying the attractions of Hillston.
